What You Need to Know About This Rare Chronic Autoimmune Disease

YourUpdateTV

Less than 150,000 people in the US suffer from IgA Nephropathy, a rare chronic autoimmune disease that affects the kidneys. The rarity of this disease leaves patients and their families feeling isolated and unsupported. Recently Andrew Udell, North America President at Calliditas Therapeutics and Judy Akin an IgA Nephropathy Patient and Advocate conducted a satellite media tour to talk about IgAN and available resources to diagnose it and treat. IgA nephropathy, sometimes referred to as IgAN, is a chronic autoimmune disease and is a leading cause of end-stage kidney disease with more than half of IgAN patients progressing to require dialysis or kidney transplant within 20 years of initial diagnosis. Although this disease affects kidneys and often results in kidney disease, it actually originates outside of the kidneys and it thought to start in the gut. Similar to other chronic autoimmune diseases, the burden of IgA nephropathy is significant. Only 130,000-150,000 people in the United States suffer from this disease, so patients and their families are often left feeling like they are living on an island with nowhere to turn to for support. Thankfully changes are happening. Both advocacy groups and biopharmaceutical companies are working towards providing support, education, and finding new treatments for this complicated disease. Whether you’ve just been diagnosed with IgA nephropathy (IgAN) or you’ve been living with the disease for many years, there are available resources to support you. IgAN Connect can help you understand IgAN, approaches to management, and ways to help you live with this chronic autoimmune disease. IgAN Connect also provides helpful information and resources you may need today or in the future. For more information and resources related to IgAN go to iganconnect.com. It is also always recommended that individuals living with IgA nephropathy, or their loved ones, speak directly with their doctor and engage with the numerous advocacy groups that exist to provide support. --------------------------- About Andy Udell As President, North America at Calliditas Therapeutics, Andrew Udell has more than 20 years of commercial experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Before joining Calliditas, Andrew worked as Vice President of North America Commercial at NeuroDerm. Andrew began his career in the pharmaceutical industry in various sales and marketing positions, including being responsible for a multi-functional team for a multi-billion franchise. About Judy Judy is an IgA nephropathy advocate. After her diagnosis with the rare disease in 2019, she began to share about her experiences through a written blog and on the social media platform TikTok. Judy has around 4000 followers on her TikTok account. Most of them are people living with various forms of chronic illness. A lot of her videos focus on the chronic pain and kidney disease that so often results from IgA nephropathy as well as the lifestyle choices she makes to help manage her disease. YourUpdateTV

When it comes to weight, everyone’s journey is different. Recently, Actor, Curve Model, Podcaster and Body Positivity Advocate, Hayley Hasselhoff, teamed with Plenity on a nationwide satellite media tour to discuss her own health journey and some simple tips that can help people reach their goals. A video accompanying this announcement is available at: https://youtu.be/MCtSF-EOHYI As someone in the public eye since the age of 14, Hayley knows firsthand that weight does not define who you are. According to Hayley, “You can love your body just the way it is, and you can also love your body while working to achieve your goals.” Coming out of the pandemic, Hayley wanted to focus on being more health-minded and set personal goals, igniting a newfound health journey, and ultimately leading her to Plenity. Plenity is a prescription weight management product, made from naturally derived building blocks and designed to mimic the physical properties of vegetables to help you feel fuller so you can eat less. Plenity® is indicated to aid weight management in adults with excess weight or obesity, a Body Mass Index (BMI) of 25–40 kg/m², when used in conjunction with diet and exercise. While size doesn’t define your worth and happiness doesn’t come from a specific size, the way we take care of our own personal health is of utter importance. Nobody should feel shame for having different or changing health goals throughout their lives. As Hayley enters her 30s, it has become clear that people evolve over time and their bodies evolve with them. Instead of allowing ourselves to live in a state of self-judgment, we should appreciate and shamelessly be able to say that our health goals will evolve with us over time as well. A SUMMER SNAPSHOT OF BACK-TO-SCHOOL TRENDS

YourUpdateTV

A video accompanying this announcement is available at: https://youtu.be/9s0kNEPgHg4 The heat is on as parents prepare to help their kids get to the head of the class for the upcoming school year. With pandemic issues still top of mind, they continue to seek fun ways to engage with their children, including vacation time, playtime, and sweet treats. Back-to-school shopping also remains a top priority with eighty-four percent of consumers expecting to see an increase in prices for popular items like clothing, school supplies, and electronics. The National Retail Federation finds this will likely lead to a hyper-focused approach to spending, including comparative online shopping, scouting out deals, and using more coupons. Bethany Braun-Silva has a summer snapshot of back-to-school trends, including the latest way for students to take notes and retain information. SWEET REWARDS: The start of a new school year can be stressful — not only for parents but for kids, too. Braun-Silva has one special and sweet way to reward and keep kids motivated as they head back to school, and it’s with something everyone loves: chocolate. For the first time in the U.S., Cinnabon has swapped the cinnamon for chocolate with its new Chocolate BonBites. “They taste fantastic,” says the lifestyle expert, adding, “These bite-sized rolls — filled with ooey-gooey chocolate and topped with chocolate and cream cheese frosting — make the perfect after-school snack and are available for a limited-time either in Cinnabon bakeries or through delivery, which is super convenient for a parent on the go. Get them before they’re gone!” The brand is offering an exclusive offer: a FREE 4-count of Chocolate BonBites with any purchase of $15 or more by using the code CHOCOLATE in the Cinnabon app today. Braun-Silva mentions that there are ways to incorporate hybrid schedules into late summer and early fall travel plans. Learning remotely is one educational trend expected to continue for the first part of the upcoming school year. The lifestyles expert says now is a great time for parents to blend vacation season and at-home schooling together. Braun-Silva highlights how family getaways are an opportunity for kids to catch up on early reading assignments at the pool or on the beach, adding, “In my family, we even play spelling games and go over the times table. It helps make learning fun.” Braun-Silva admits environment plays an important part when choosing a destination, accommodations, and family activities. She says, “Howard Johnson by Wyndham is perfect! They have hundreds of locations, really fun mid-century modern rooms that my kids adore—plus free Wi-Fi—perfect for working or learning remotely. They offer a free light breakfast and a great rewards program, Wyndham Rewards.” Travelers can book now and earn a free night after just two stays. For more information, go to HoJo.com. Braun-Silva says the coming weeks are all about finding the steals and deals. One helpful way to save time and money is by using the PayPal Honey desktop extension—an online shopping tool that helps discover deals and cash back. She points out that it is trusted by millions, and automatically searches for available coupons and applies the best working ones at checkout. This extension also helps find offers featuring Cash Back. Customers are able to redeem points for cash and other rewards h on eligible purchases, so they can take their money further while shopping for all their back-to-school needs. “It’s fast and seamless to install the PayPal Honey extension on your desktop in just a few clicks,” says Braun-Silva, “You can start saving on many of your favorite sites from tech to fashion to school supplies. The lifestyles expert says the Five Star® Study App makes it easier for students to study anywhere, anytime. “It’s very user-friendly,” she points out, adding “The triangles on the left side of the paper allow the app to ‘flag’ important notes to turn them into digital flashcards, and the four corners enables scanning.” This is the evolution of how students consume and retain information.
