Colorado pet owners say yes, they want access to mid-level veterinary professionals and telehealth

Vet Care Coalition

Responding to increasing costs and unavailability due to the state’s significant veterinary workforce shortage, four out of five Colorado pet owners say they would not hesitate to have their animal seen by a newly-created mid-level veterinary professional associate, similar in function and oversight to a physician assistant (PA). These are among the findings of an independent survey of Colorado pet owners announced by the Vet Care Coalition (VetCareCoalition.com), an expanding alliance of animal welfare organizations, veterinarians and technicians, pet owners, ranchers and other experts working to establish workable solutions to the state’s costly veterinary workforce shortage. The Vet Care Coalition is pursuing legislation in Colorado’s statehouse to achieve three common-sense initiatives toward addressing the state’s veterinary shortage: 1. Establishing a path for creation of a mid-level veterinary professional associate (VPA), similar to a physician assistant (PA) in human medicine. A VPA will be a master’s degree-level professional working under the supervision of a veterinarian to provide care such as examining pets, diagnosing minor conditions, performing routine surgeries and leading healthcare teams. These professionals will generate practice revenue while increasing overall workforce capacity, helping to increase patient availability while lowering costs. 2. Codifying the availability of veterinary care through telehealth services, which are increasingly used in human medicine. More than half of the state’s pet owners surveyed said they would be comfortable using virtual veterinary care for their animals. 3. Expanding the role of registered veterinarian technician specialists (VTS), with additional training and credentialing. “Vet tech” specialists are often underutilized in veterinary practices because Colorado regulations unreasonably limit what they can legally do. Expanding the role of a VTS will increase veterinary care capacity across the state while helping encourage retention at a time when many are leaving the sector due to burn-out and lack of professional growth. Colorado’s veterinary shortage is well-documented In 2021, the U.S. Department of Agriculture identified 25 rural and urban Colorado counties as having “veterinary shortage situations” in food animal medicine – a situation that contributes to higher prices while putting food safety at risk. In addition, the Veterinary Care Accessibility Project (AccessToVetCare.org) gave Colorado a score of only 58 out of 100, noting that veterinary care is nearly inaccessible in much of the state. The shortage has had a negative impact on pet owners and their animals across the country – and could get much worse. A Mars Veterinary Health study found that without solutions put in place soon, the U.S. will have 15,000 fewer veterinarians than it needs by 2030, leaving some 75 million pets without any veterinary care at all. The Colorado survey, conducted in mid-January by Corona Insights research firm, asked 556 pet owners across the state how they have been impacted by the veterinary shortage and gauged their initial comfort level with being seen by a VPA or via telehealth services. The research found that high veterinary costs generate the greatest level of concern and dissatisfaction among pet owners, with almost 25 percent saying high costs made them decide against taking their animals in for necessary care over the last year. The U.S. Dept. of Labor Consumer Price Index shows that between 1997 and 2022, veterinarian services steadily rose at almost twice the rate of inflation. Through 2021 and 2022 alone, the nation’s veterinary shortage contributed to service prices increasing by more than 13 percent. More than a quarter of survey respondents also said they were significantly challenged in finding and making timely appointments with veterinarians in their area. Logical and urgent need for a mid-level veterinary professional “While the human medical profession has embraced physician assistants for more than 50 years, veterinary medicine inexplicably still has no such mid-level professional position,” said coalition spokesperson Dr. Apryl Steele, past president of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA) and current CEO of the Dumb Friends League. “Animals will suffer until we fill this glaring need,” said Dr. Steele, “while Colorado’s veterinary workforce will continue to be severely overworked and understaffed.” The American Medical Association (AMA) officially recognized physician assistants in 1971, with the first PA certification tests implemented by the National Board of Medical Examiners two years later. “The VPA would not replace a veterinarian or a veterinary technician,” said Dr. Steele. “Rather, it will enhance a practice while providing credentialed veterinary technicians with a career path toward greater responsibility and compensation.” In Colorado’s USDA-identified veterinary shortage areas, VPAs will be allowed to work under indirect supervision to help increase access to care for food and fiber animals. “It’s important to understand that fully utilizing veterinary technicians and creating a mid-level veterinary PA are complementary options for solving Colorado’s veterinarian workforce shortage crisis,” said Dr. Steele. “We absolutely need both.” About the Vet Care Coalition The Vet Care Coalition is an expanding alliance that includes animal welfare organizations, veterinarians and technicians, pet owners, ranchers and other experts with a common goal to find workable solutions to the state’s costly veterinary workforce shortage. Organizational coalition members supporting the legislation include the Animal Welfare Association of Colorado (AWAC), Colorado Voters for Animals, the Dumb Friends League (DFL), Thrive Pet Healthcare, Humane Society of the Pikes Peak Region (HSPPR), Roice-Hurst Humane Society, Virtual Veterinary Care Association, Animal Policy Group, WellHaven Pet Health, Larimer Humane Society, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) and Mars Petcare. Individual supporters include four former presidents of the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA), as well as a growing number of veterinarians, practice owners and animal welfare advocates across the nation. Sharon Personal Care Reveals New Products to be Introduced at in-cosmetics® global 2023

Sharon Personal Care

Sharon Personal Care, a global supplier of ingredient solutions for a broad range of personal care products, revealed the new products it will introduce at the in-cosmetics ® global event, taking place March 28-30, 2023, in Barcelona, Spain. Representatives from Sharon Personal Care will be at the event to introduce Pantrofina ® J-Gravity, a new ingredient to combat the effects of gravity on the skin and Emulpharma ® Mimesis, a green emulsifier that makes skin care ingredients more effective. Sharon is also expanding its SharoSENSE™ with a new preservation offering. Attendees can visit Sharon Personal Care in Stand R50 to learn about these new products as well as the company's complete line of beauty and personal care solutions. "Pantrofina J-Gravity stands out due to its innovative use of lavender essential oils as the primary carrier for quercetin, the main component found in bancha tea leaf extract, which can inhibit MMPs via Zn+ chelation," says Naama Eylon, CEO of Sharon Personal Care. "Typically, aromatherapy is considered a means of utilizing essential oils to achieve physical and mental wellness goals. However, with Pantrofina J-Gravity, we're going beyond that and exploring the physiological mechanisms that underpin the science behind essential oils, which is closely linked to cell-carrier technology." Pantrofina J-Gravity is a natural ingredient, palm-free, and derived from the extraction process of bancha tea in lavender essential oils. It has demonstrated excellent anti-aging properties during in-vivo testing, which also found that the ingredient redefines facial contour and decreases the depth of wrinkles in the eye area. Emulpharma Mimesis, Sharon's new green emulsifier, is based on a proprietary combination of lecithin and polyglycerols and is capable of creating a light and sprayable texture for skin care products. It creates lamellar structures that can form micelles with high skin affinity-and therefore high penetration capacity-which enables it to transport active ingredients across the skin barrier. The active ingredients contained in the formulation can then reach sub-epidermal layers more effectively and selectively. This allows for more economical use of ingredients in formulations. This new emulsifier is easy to use, energy efficient, and can be cold-processed in a "one-pot" procedure, greatly simplifying manufacturing practices and making processes more environmentally friendly. Its light, sensory profile helps it to adapt to a wide range of applications, from Asian beauty routines to baby care formulations. The new addition to the SharoSENSE line is Preservation from NATURE. Created in a lab, it answers the market demand for green and clean INCI preservation that is high in efficacy and safety. Sharon will present a line of preservation solutions that are COSMOS-approved, hydro soluble, broad spectrum and that are highly effective at a use level of lower than one percent. The products in the SharoSENSE line are odorless and colorless and are globally approved, including China compliance. For more information, visit us at in-cosmetics global, or check out the Sharon Personal Care website at: https://sharonpc.com. Sharon will introduce Preservation from NATURE, a new addition to its SharoSENSE™ line of preservatives, during in-cosmetics global 2023. Sharon Personal Care’s Emulpharma ® Mimesis will be introduced at in-cosmetics global 2023. It is a green emulsifier that makes skin care ingredients more effective. Angie Avers Shares Why She Left Corporate World to Buy & Grow Minuteman Press Franchise in Phoenix, AZ

Minuteman Press International Inc

Angie Avers has owned her Minuteman Press franchise in Phoenix, Arizona since July of 2021. In this interview, Angie shares how she no longer felt valued as an employee working for others, why she felt comfortable taking the leap into business ownership with Minuteman Press, and how she has successfully grown her business. Angie’s Minuteman Press center is located at 2432 W. Peoria Ave., Suite 1023, Phoenix, AZ 85029. What does it mean to you to be a business owner? Why did you choose Minuteman Press? Angie Avers: “I left the corporate environment after nearly 30 years because I was tired of working for someone else and not feeling valued as an employee. I also struggled with finding a new job for over 2 years as well. One day on LinkedIn, the Minuteman Press opportunity presented itself and I inquired about it. I thought to myself, I have nothing to lose at this point so why not? I was later contacted by Brady Rockwell from the Minuteman Press Int’l team and it all started to become real. I started to panic and almost walked away from this opportunity, but after looking at what Minuteman Press International has accomplished and what they were about, I was sold! I knew they wouldn’t judge me for my age or my background and the key part of it all was ‘we’ll train you.’ My background is in marketing and communications, and why wouldn’t I want to help other business owners build their business with print and promotional products? I thought “this is a no brainer!” What has the support from Minuteman Press International been like for you? Angie Avers: “Minuteman support has been great. Whenever I have a problem with FLEX the team always helps me and if I have other issues, I’m always directed to the correct person. There is so much information in FLEX that I still would like to learn even more. Jack Panzer, my local RVP in Arizona, and Sky Hittle, our Field Rep, are always there to help and be there for when I need help or they direct me to where I need to be.” What do you think sets you apart from the competition? Angie Avers: “I describe my business as a ‘full-service print and marketing design company exclusively ran by women.’ We have a plethora of resources at our fingertips and if we can’t do it in-house, we always have resources to help. I believe what sets us apart is our strong work ethic, our honesty with our customers, and our customer service.” What are your high-demand products and key growth areas? Angie Avers: “It’s really hard to say what our high-demand products are. Our core is still paper products, but we are growing other areas. One area we have grown substantially is our design services. New business owners come into our shop all the time. We discuss what their initial needs are and we start with their logo and colors. From there, we build upon what their other needs are and help them brand other products they may need for their business. One customer comes to mind, where we started from scratch with their logo, then brochures and flyers, labels, and now trade show equipment and promotional products. It’s been super fun helping them build their brand and grow their business.” What are some of the key ways you’ve grown your business? Angie Avers: “One of the biggest ways I grew my business was through an acquisition and it doubled my business last year. I also network with BNI and other organizations when I have a chance. I have started doing more email marketing now that my learning curve has minimized some. Our foot traffic into the shop has also grown. When I took over the business, we put up all new window graphics and added two 14-ft. flags in front of the shop which is located on a main road. We have customers tell us all the time they saw our flags outside.” Why do you think printing remains so vital to businesses today? Angie Avers: “Print is vital because without it, everything would just be shapes and images. A world cannot go without print. We wouldn’t even know how to read if we didn’t have print. So, it is vital for sure.” What are the biggest personal and professional rewards of owning your business? Angie Avers: “Personally, I like answering to myself and making myself accountable for what is happening in my business. I thrive on giving my all to our customers and having a team that gets the job done without me chasing after them all the time. My goal is to be a million-dollar shop before I retire and professionally speaking, I just love helping businesses in my community come alive and building those relationships to sell other products.” What advice would you give to other business owners right now? Angie Avers: “Do your research, put together your pros and cons on being a business owner, and while it’s scary to take the plunge, you’ll never know unless you try. Change is hard for a lot of people, but you don’t grow staying in the same place where you are unhappy. Challenge yourself to be the best you. I did and it was the best decision I ever made. I love what I’m doing, and I wouldn’t change it for anything.” Angie Avers’ Minuteman Press franchise is located at 2432 W. Peoria Ave., Suite 1023, Phoenix, AZ 85029. Shareholder Activist: Entire Disney Board Presided Over Last Year’s Disaster and Does Not Deserve Re-election

National Legal & Policy Center

National Legal and Policy Center, a shareholder in The Walt Disney Company, is calling upon investors in the company to take the extreme step of voting to oppose the entire slate of nominees for the board of directors, all of whom are carryovers that presided over the entertainment giant’s worst year since the 1970s. That’s right – after Disney emerged from a disastrous 2022 that saw extremists take control of their programming, the degradation of its valuable intellectual and creative properties, and the worst performance of its stock price since 1974, all the existing directors (minus one) have decided that each of them deserves to return to their company oversight roles. The Disney annual meeting is on April 3. NLPC is sponsoring Proposal No. 5, which asks the board to produce a report that identifies and itemizes the company’s risks from its extensive business ties to China. NLPC also issued an extensive memorandum for shareholders, filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission on Wednesday, that outlines why the directors – including CEO Robert Iger – don’t deserve another term after Disney’s dysfunctional 2022, in which they extended the contract of former CEO Bob Chapek mid-year, only to terminate him within five months. The report also highlights several concerns pertaining to the company’s exposure in communist China. Following are excerpts from the memorandum to shareholders that was filed at the SEC on Wednesday: Disney – with its wealth of creative intellectual properties, automatic revenue generators at theme parks all over the planet, and nearly recession-proof entertainment- and media-delivery mechanisms – has seen an inexplicable decline in shareholder returns compared to the Standard & Poor’s 500 Index. As of January 10, 2023, the Company’s share price fell short against the Wall Street measuring stick over one year (by 24 percent), three years (by 60 percent), five years (by 66 percent), and ten years (by 116 percent). By March 15, 2023 – the date of the filing of this report with the SEC – the share price had descended even lower. Only two years ago Disney stock traded at its eight-year peak – $197.16 – and over the course of 2022, its value dropped by 44 percent. It was the worst year for the Company’s stock since 1974… The Company has squandered, wasted, devalued and ruined much of its content and beloved brands with the pursuit of a far-left political agenda – known in current-day parlance as “wokeness.” For that and because of those poor business decisions, we call for an overhaul of the current board, and also seek support for our own proposal (“Report on Operations Related to China”)…. Disney’s executive suite and its Board have allowed its signature brands and its once-beloved properties to become infected with divisive political agendas…. This is untenable for a Company that built its reputation on family-friendly programming and offerings, if it hopes to continue to attract a broad swath of viewers and customers…. While Disney was more than willing to go to battle (with Mr. Iger’s blessing) against Florida over the parental rights bill that opponents falsely nicknamed the “Don’t Say Gay” bill, the Company proactively waved the surrender flag in order to access TV audiences in the Muslim world….The Company only cares to “fight” for LGBTQ+ rights where they are free to do so. Otherwise, Disney is perfectly happy to bend its “principles” at the behest of dictators and oppressors in pursuit of revenues…. Mr. Iger has come under criticism for his succession planning…. Shareholder Abigail Disney (whose politics largely align with Mr. Iger’s), granddaughter of Company co-founder Roy O. Disney and grandniece of Walt, told Time in November, “The bottom line is that this was very poor succession planning and the onus of that has to land squarely on Bob Iger’s shoulders as well as the shoulders of the board of directors.” She also said, “I hope it triggers some reflection at the board level because ultimately, this is the board’s job, to hire and fire CEOs. I hope to see something better happening next time around. I hope Bob [Iger] has one foot out the door. The brand is taking a terrible beating right now for a lot of reasons….” “Disney shareholders may think we’re crazy for asking that they oppose the entire board’s re-election, but all the vote means is that it is a statement of no-confidence,” said Paul Chesser, director of NLPC’s Corporate Integrity Project. “After the company’s catastrophic 2022 and the persistent mundane performance of its share price, the current directors have failed miserably. A signal from shareholders would force them to revisit their board makeup and tell them to refresh their ranks.” You can read NLPC’s shareholder proposal on China risks at its website, and the full memorandum to Disney shareholders at the SEC website. Founded in 1991, NLPC promotes ethics in public life and government accountability through research, investigation, education, and legal action. ### For more information or to schedule an interview with Paul Chesser, contact Dan Rene at 202-329-8357 or drene@nlpc.org. American Center for Cures Co-Founder Appointed by President Biden to National Cancer Advisory Board

The American Center for Cures

The American Center for Cures (ACC) today announced its long-time partner and co-founder Dr. Richard Boxer has been selected by President Joseph Biden to the National Cancer Advisory Board. In this role, Dr. Boxer will use his years of medical expertise to help guide the Director of the National Cancer Institute in the development of the organization’s national cancer research. Along with venerated entrepreneur Lou Weisbach, Dr. Boxer co-founded the ACC as a bipartisan initiative that aims to unite medicine, science, pharmaceuticals, business, and government to seek out new treatments and cures for Alzheimer’s, diabetes, Parkinson’s, mental diseases, many forms of cancer, and several others. “Richard Boxer and I have worked together on this important endeavor for more than a decade. It’s an honor to see him elevated to the National Cancer Advisory Board,” said Lou Weisbach, CEO and Co-Founder of ACC. “I’ve been working in a bipartisan way with leaders of both parties and the quote from Tom Price, former Secretary of Health, tells you all you need to know about our mission: ‘When this plan is approved it will rival the greatest achievements in US history and offer the sense of urgency that all American families yearn for and deserve when battling disease.’” Dr. Boxer, a UCLA Clinical Professor and Co-Founder of the American Center for Cures added: “I’ve dedicated my professional career to compassionate and uncompromising care for cancer patients and educating the public and the medical community and preventing and curing disease is a critical single issue that all Americans can agree on. As a practicing urologist treating cancer patients and cancer survivor myself, the mission of the ACC and my role in its success is very personal.” Dr. Boxer, a Clinical Professor at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA, himself a three-time cancer survivor, has been practicing medicine for 44 years, caring for more than 7,000 patients with cancer and tens of thousands of patients with other illnesses. He represented the U.S. at the World Health Organization as a private citizen, a finalist for Surgeon General of the United States in both a Democratic and Republican Administration, and he was recently on the Board of Directors of the American Society of Clinical Oncology Conquer Cancer Foundation. Dr. Boxer has published nearly 100 journal articles and book chapters on medical research and has also written extensively on health policy in national press outlets. He helped create the initial clinical protocols for telemedicine, becoming the Chief Medical Officer of numerous telemedicine companies. In April 2021, he was awarded the Distinguished Alumni Award by the University of Wisconsin’s Medical School, its highest honor. “This is a critical single issue that all Americans can agree on, whether they be black or white, rich or poor, Democrat or Republican,” declared Weisbach. “With kudos to all medical breakthroughs of the past, we still haven’t gotten the job done in a business-like fashion as a nation when it comes to prevention and cures. That ends today. We are not asking congress or both parties to move forward on this initiative, we are insisting that it be passed unanimously. This issue impacts all 335 million Americans in the same way, including everyone in The White House, as well as members of Congress and their families. If we cannot unite on this issue as Americans, then I submit there are no issues on which we can unite.” About American Center for Cures The American Center for Cures (ACC) initiative is a fully funded mission to prevent, treat or cure diseases that plague every American family. The initiative will be funded by the sale of $750B bonds by the Federal Reserve, providing the capital needed to accelerate the current trajectory of medicine. Annual interest will be paid through the licensing of new compounds and drugs to pharmaceutical companies. The principal will be repaid by savings provided to the United States Government through successes in the areas of prevention and cures. The ACC business model will cost the government and taxpayers nothing, making this the single most impactful investment on behalf of the American people in the nation’s history. Pros and Cons of an ECN Forex Broker

LonghornFX

Although electronic communication network (ECN) technology has existed since the 1970s, it wasn’t until 1999 that it appeared on the foreign exchange (forex) market. In many ways, it represented the great equalizer, creating level ground with an accent on execution speed and cost transparency. This article will look into the peculiar details of ECN brokers — explain their business model, and reflect on the strengths and weaknesses of this trading network. What is an ECN Broker? An ECN broker is a financial intermediary that allows its clients to execute orders on financial markets through an electronic communications network (ECN). This broker is strictly an intermediary, so it doesn’t take these orders on its books but simply matches them between the market participants. Because an ECN broker often uses multiple liquidity providers, the spread (difference between the buy and sell prices) is usually narrower. Instead of offering wider spreads, the ECN broker receives compensation through a fixed commission per transaction. Understanding the Electronic Communication Network ECN is a network that automatically matches orders between participants in the financial markets. Those participants can be institutions like banks or hedge funds but also small individual traders. The focus is on speed, and every participant can access the same price feed. This price reflects the highest bid and lowest ask on the open market. The current and the most recent price history is also available, enabling transparency and easier analysis. ECN trading is entirely anonymous, providing privacy to those who need it — particularly institutions that can be vulnerable to competition if their orders are discovered. Benefits of ECN Brokers ECN brokers offer significant benefits. Consider the following: Lower Bid and Ask Spreads ECN brokers consolidate price quotes from liquidity providers, offering deeper liquidity. For that reason, spreads are smaller, creating particularly beneficial situations for short-term, high-frequency traders. Quicker Trade Execution ECN functions as an automated system that matches market participants' orders directly. Because the broker only passes trades through, there is no dealing desk downside, such as price requotes that might delay the execution. Flexibility ECN brokers don’t operate dealing desks, giving them higher flexibility in their operations. Meanwhile, an ECN network allows traders to trade over-the-counter (OTC) even outside the busiest market hours without a conflict of interest with the broker as a counterparty. Flat Commission Rate ECN brokers charge a volume-based commission rate while minimizing or, in some instances, eliminating the spread. This approach allows for better trade planning because total fees are just a simple calculation away. Drawbacks of ECN Brokers ECN brokers offer many benefits, but their business model isn’t without downsides. Market Fragmentation Market fragmentation is a phenomenon of the same asset trading at different prices. With ECN brokers, that might happen if the underlying asset experiences a dip in liquidity when fulfilling a large order outside of high market hours. High Minimum Account Values and Trade Sizes ECN brokers make money on trading volume. Still, providing a customer with the service is a cost that needs to be recouped so ECN brokers often have higher minimum account and trade sizes. Can Be Less User-Friendly ECN broker platforms sometimes don’t offer extensive charting capabilities, news feeds or other features that might help traders. Traders who want those features should test ECN brokers before committing. ECN Brokers vs. Dealing Desk Brokers ECN brokers focus on matching the order with an opposite one from their liquidity pool. They’re also referred to as nondealing desk brokers because they don’t trade themselves. Dealing desk brokers take the other side of the trade and then manage that risk. Essentially, they make the market so they are classified as the market maker. This approach allows for offering more stable or fixed spreads. But those spreads are usually higher to compensate for risk and enable the dealing desk to profit by selling at a higher price. Traders have two main issues with dealing desk brokers. The first is the conflict of interest because the broker trades against the trader and profits from its loss — encouraging price manipulation. Second is price requotes and execution delays that might arise in unstable market conditions. Suitable for Most Traders Needs In the early days of electronic trading, the broker market in many ways resembled Wild West. Despite some honest operators leading the way, many shady or straight-out illegal brokers made and broke the market to steal clients’ funds. In those circumstances, ECN was the breakthrough technology. It leveled the playing field, giving all market participants the same access and opportunities. At the same time, it created a transparent environment where brokers have no conflict of interest but simply focus on fulfilling orders for a commission — an environment that perfectly suits most traders’ needs.
