We invite you to visit the Twang website at https://www.twang.com/ to learn more about the company and its products. We are thrilled to announce that Elysia Gonzales, President and CEO of Twang, has been selected as a 2023 Top Woman in Grocery by Progressive Grocer. This prestigious recognition highlights Gonzales’s exceptional leadership and contributions to the food industry, specifically in the category of Senior Level Executive. Progressive Grocer’s 2023 list of “Top Women in Grocery” (TWIG) will be unveiled in the upcoming June print issue and on the website by mid-June. The TWIG gala celebration and leadership development program will take place on November 8-9, 2023, at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress in Orlando, Florida. As President of Twang, a San Antonio-based Latino-owned beer salt company, Elysia Gonzales has revolutionized the acceptance and popularity of beer salt across the United States, making "dressing your beer" a common practice. Overcoming stereotypes and challenges as a mother of four, Gonzales has persevered to graduate from college while successfully leading the growth of Twang. She considers Twang employees her second family and is deeply involved in her community. She supports various local charities, businesses, and initiatives such as food drives for the San Antonio Food Bank, school supplies drives, and the THRU Project, which provides foster youth with support and essential resources. Under Gonzales’s direction, Twang has earned recognition as one of the "Best Places to Work” in the San Antonio Business Journal for three consecutive years, with over half of the employees having been with the company for five years or more. She oversees a workforce of 60 employees at the company's 50,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in San Antonio and manages operations at their Mexico plant in San Luis Potosi as well. During her leadership, Twang has experienced remarkable growth, with sales nearly doubling over the past five years. Even during the challenges posed by the pandemic, Gonzales retained and paid 100% of their employees. Twang has also forged strategic partnerships with local organizations and national brands, including Heineken USA (Dos XX) and Boston Beer Company (Truly Seltzers). Elysia Gonzales is eager to discuss various topics related to her journey and Twang's success, including her community involvement, creating a positive work environment, managing company operations, driving sales growth, and the popularity of beer salt in Texas and beyond. "I enhance eating and drinking experiences, from dressing beers using Twang beer salts to unique flavorful rimming salts for margaritas and creating different flavors of all-in-one michelada cocktail mixes. Millions of our products are manufactured, sold, and distributed in over 20,000 store shelves across the country," says Elysia Gonzales. In 1986, Twang Founder Roger Treviño Sr. left his career after experiencing an epiphany while on a business trip in Mexico. Visiting a Mexican street vendor selling citrus salt, he was reminded of his childhood in San Antonio, with its abundance of Latino flavors. He returned home inspired to create a variety of flavored salts to share with friends and family. Launching the Twang business out of his family garage and together with the Treviño children to help, his first product (and claim to fame) was Twang Beer Salt, an integral product in the Southern trend of “dressing” beers and other libations. From these humble beginnings, the Treviños have since expanded Twang product lines into flavored salt for food, cocktail rimmer blends, michelada mix, and more to come!
