OPPO partners with Japanese architect Kengo Kuma for Milan Design Week 2021 to create multisensory landmark installation Bamboo (竹) Ring :|| Weaving a Symphony of Lightness and Form

OPPO

MILAN, ITALY – Media OutReach - 6 September 2021 - OPPO the smart device manufacturer and innovator has partnered with Japanese architect Kengo Kuma to create Bamboo (竹) Ring:|| Weaving a Symphony of Lightness and Form. The multi-sensory installation works to the theme “Creative Connections” by fusing Architecture with Music, design innovation, technological prowess, and user experience to create a sense of time and space, and will be on display in Milan’s Cortile dei Bagni courtyard for the duration of Milan Design Week, until 19 September. This landmark project is an evolution of Kengo Kuma and OPPO’s Bamboo Ring exhibition which debuted at the 2019 edition of the London Design Festival and explored the harmonious relationship between humans and nature through the envisioning of lightweight yet strong structures made with bamboo and carbon fiber. This year, OPPO’s experiential installation uses pioneering technology to engage all the senses through a series of orchestral scores composed by Japanese violinist Midori Komachi with Musicity. The composition is based on the cycle of seasons and moves through the structure encouraging the public to walk around and be captured by its aural narrative. The changing soundscapes integrate the sound of Midori's violin (built in Milan in 1920 and enhanced with carbon fiber itself) from O Relax, OPPO's digital wellbeing application that offers comforting nature and city sounds to relax your mind taken from locations around the globe including Reykjavik, Beijing, and Tokyo. “OPPO is a human-centric brand, our focus is on innovating for the people. We are delighted to partner with Kengo Kuma again, an architect who is known for seamlessly integrating nature and culture. Together, we demonstrate how we can use technology and design to add value to our daily lives drawing on our philosophy principles of "Technology as an Art Form" and our brand mission "Technology for Mankind, Being Kind to the World.” – Jintong Zhu, Head of OPPO London Design Centre The installation’s woven structure – crafted from rings of bamboo and carbon fiber – becomes a musical instrument as music travels through it via structural sound technologies originating from OPPO London Design Centre's research. Innovative technology including new haptic motors, MEMS speaker strips, and exciters work together to produce an immersive base and higher frequencies which reverberate the bamboo with Violin's vibrato and the effect of a percussion instrument. “When I design architecture, I’m interested in designing the rhythm and the tone rather than the silhouette, and contemporary music gives us many lessons about how to create new rhythms and tones in architecture. This pavilion is one of the explorations into the new rhythms and tones in architecture combining visual and acoustic experiences of the visitors.” – Kengo Kuma, architect After Milan Design Week, OPPO will donate Bamboo Ring to Arte Sella Park in Trentino, Italy, a contemporary art museum with outdoor exhibits made from natural materials and backdropped by the mountainous Sella Valley, where it will find its permanent home. About OPPO OPPO is a leading global smart device brand. Since the launch of its first smartphone - “Smiley Face” - in 2008, OPPO has been in relentless pursuit of the perfect synergy of aesthetic satisfaction and innovative technology. Today, OPPO provides a wide range of smart devices spearheaded by the Find and Reno series. Beyond devices, OPPO provides its users with the ColorOS operating system and internet services like OPPO Cloud and OPPO+. OPPO operates in more than 40 countries and regions, with 6 Research Institutes and 4 R&D Centers worldwide, as well as an International Design Centre in London. OPPO’s more than 40,000 employees are dedicated to creating a better life for customers around the world. https://www.oppo.com/ @oppo #OPPOMilanDesignWeek About Kengo Kuma Kengo Kuma (b.1954) decided to pursue architecture at a young age, after seeing Kenzo Tange's Yoyogi National Gymnasium for the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. He studied Architecture at The University of Tokyo (completing a Masters in 1979) and established Kengo Kuma & Associates in 1990. As Professor at the Graduate School of Architecture at The University of Tokyo, he set up the Kuma Lab to research new materials and conduct a course in advanced digital design and fabrication. His award-winning firm aims to design architecture which naturally merges with its surroundings, proposing gentle, human-scaled buildings. U.S. Treasury Department's CDFI Fund Announces Fiscal Year 2020 NMTC Awards

New Markets Tax Credit Coalition

The U.S. Department of the Treasury's CDFI Fund announced the Calendar Year 2020 New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) allocation awards today. The CDFI Fund awarded $5 billion to 100 Community Development Entities (CDEs) from 34 states and the District of Columbia. "The federal New Markets Tax Credit is a unique and flexible community development tool with a successful track record, attracting investment capital and boosting economic activity in low-income areas," said Bob Rapoza, spokesman for the NMTC Coalition. "In fact, the NMTC has leveraged an unprecedented level of investment to low-income communities—generating about $110 billion in total capital investment through public-private partnerships that created more than one million jobs." The CDFI Fund indicated 208 CDEs applied for allocations for a total demand of $15.1 billion in tax credits. However, with 100 successful applications (56%) receiving $5 billion, the availability of credits only meets a fraction of the true demand in communities across America. Established in 2000 in the Community Renewal Tax Relief Act (P.L.106-554), the New Markets Tax Credit is a bipartisan effort to stimulate investment and economic growth in low-income urban neighborhoods and rural communities. The NMTC provides a shallow federal tax credit of 39 percent, taken over seven years, for investments in census tracts where the individual poverty rate is at least 20 percent or where the median family income does not exceed 80 percent of the area median. In 2020, 85 percent of NMTC activity was in America's poorest rural and urban communities, characterized by poverty of at least 30 percent and unemployment rates 1.5 times the national average. In addition, more than half of NMTC allocation goes to communities where a majority of residents are people of color. Of the $51 billion in NMTC allocation deployed through 2019, $27.8 billion went to majority-minority census tracts, creating 244,000 permanent jobs. The economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic have hit especially hard on low-income communities and the small businesses serving those communities. For that reason, it is important to note that some $3.8 billion (78%) of NMTC allocation will be deployed as loans and investments in operating businesses in rural, tribal, and urban low-income communities. To date, the NMTC has financed more than 7,000 projects, including nearly 3,000 community services and facilities, such as hospitals, schools, daycare centers, and non-profit service providers – all in areas that were lacking access to quality facilities before the NMTC investments. As a result, more than 18 million patients have been treated in NMTC-financed healthcare projects, and over 200,000 children participate in youth enrichment programs or receive care in early childhood learning centers. At the end of 2020, Congress extended the Credit through 2025 at $5 billion in annual credit authority, the largest ever NMTC extension. There is currently bipartisan legislation in Congress aimed at expanding the allocation level and investor base of the NMTC as well as making it permanent. The NMTC Extension Act of 2021, H.R.1321 in the House and S.456 in the Senate. There are presently 21 Senators signed on in support of S.456, which was introduced by Senators Ben Cardin (D-MD) and Roy Blunt (R-MO). H.R.1680 currently has 88 cosponsors and is led by Reps. Terri Sewell (D-AL) and Tom Reed (R-NY). "The NMTC is a great deal for the federal government, leveraging eight dollars in other investments in communities for every dollar in credits. But, most importantly, the NMTC is a critical tool for our country's small, overlooked rural towns and blighted urban neighborhoods that have been left outside of the economic mainstream for far too long. At least $2.7 billion – 75 percent – will be targeted to highly distressed communities, and one-fifth of the 2020 awards will be made in rural communities, with about $1.1 billion in NMTC investments going to revitalize non-metropolitan counties," said Rapoza. For examples of how the NMTC is making an impact in each state, see the NMTC Coalition's NMTC at Work in Communities 2020 report or check out its Project Profile Database. The Coalition also released the 17th edition of its NMTC Progress Report on June 17, which documents the NMTC impact in Calendar Year 2020 and features a special section analyzing the effects of NMTC investments and pandemic response efforts. About New Markets Tax Credit Program The New Markets Tax Credit (NMTC) was enacted in 2000 to stimulate private investment and economic growth in low-income urban neighborhoods and rural communities that lack access to the patient capital needed to support and grow businesses, create jobs, and sustain healthy local economies. Since its inception, the NMTC has generated more than one million jobs. Today due to the NMTC, $110 billion is hard at work in underserved communities in all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. For more information, visit www.NMTCCoalition.org. Revolve Law Group Announces Expansion Plans

Revolve Law Group

In Law360’s Glass Ceiling Report released less than a year ago, it was reported that female partners make up merely 25% of law firms across the country, while women make up 40% of all lawyers in the USA. These statistics illustrate a small picture of the imbalance in gender equality in the traditionally male-dominated industry, which is currently on track to achieve gender parity in equity partnerships in 160 years ( according to a 2015 analysis by The American Lawyer in its Special Report: Big Law Is Failing Women). In a time of global social and economic disruption, Revolve Law Group has embarked on a quest to elevate female equity in the law profession while setting new standards for respect, responsibility, and results. In a relative press release, Guy Kulandski, CEO and Co-Founder of Premonition, which is regarded as the world’s largest litigation database, stated that, “If female attorneys were compensated according to how often they actually win cases, they'd be paid more than men.” Driven by their core principles, Revolve Law Group’s partners design their interactions with clients and opposing counsel to listen more than most, consider what the optimal outcome actually means for all involved – including their opponents, create strategies that are tailor-made versus textbook, which puts the client on the team, and stresses transparent communication and compassion throughout the litigation process. This mosaic of distinct choices has proved to be a formulation for developing exceptionally satisfied clients while delivering superior results. Revolve’s collective team of partners is inspired to cultivate and expand their team of like-minded female professionals who are passionate about spearheading the next wave of change in the legal profession with unparalleled resolve to do so. “We’ve all heard and even used the words “The Future is Female” but the future is here, now. Tech cross-border M&A on record pace in First Half of 2021 according to data from Velocity Global and PitchBook

Velocity Global

Deal multiples return to 2019 levels Cross-border software deals skyrocket Cross-Border M&A Monitor: Tech Sector released today Cross-border tech merger and acquisition deals accelerated in the first half of 2021, on a record pace in transactional volume. That data from PitchBook was released today in the Cross-Border M&A Monitor: Tech Sector published by Velocity Global, the leading provider of global employment solutions. The late surge of activity in 2020 continued through the first half of this year with approximately 1,000 cross-border tech deals closed, for an aggregate of $139.9 billion. “The deal multiple increased in the first half of this year and returned to 2019 levels, which indicates investor confidence in global economic recovery,” said Rob Wellner, Velocity Global chief revenue officer. “Increased multiples drive an even greater need for pre-deal preparation and successful integration after close.” Software value already tops 2020 The value of cross-border M&A deals for Software companies in the first six months of 2021 already topped full-year values for 2020 at over $100 billion. “The pandemic accelerated digital transformations, funneling budgets to build or buy the necessary tools,” added Wellner. “The acquirers are tech and non-tech alike, with tech adding to their stack, and non-tech adding to their in-house capabilities.” Pandemic Operations Drive Cross-Border M&A Interest As evidenced by the increase in median deal size in cross-border tech M&A, dealmakers paid up with confidence. Cross-border acquisitions require businesses to navigate a distributed workforce, and the global pandemic prompted companies of all sizes to invest in the proper resources. “Integration will always have complexities like country-specific labor laws and regulations, but companies are more willing than ever to invest in cross-border diversification and leverage tools to manage a distributed workforce,” said Wellner. “Work from home is really no different than work from another country as it relates to workflow and employee engagement.” Download the Cross-Border M&A Monitor: Tech Sector here. Cloud Conventions is a sophisticated event management platform that redefines the attendee and exhibitor experience with a strong focus on delivering virtual and hybrid events, regardless of size or budget. “It seems like a repeat of 2020 as event managers, associations and other trade groups are struggling to decide if they should cancel their live event, shift to virtual or hybrid, or take other precautions to make attendees and exhibitors feel safe,” said Carolyn Bradfield, CEO of Cloud Conventions. “Any group hosting live events today needs a virtual backup plan that can be activated to ensure attendees and sponsors can participate in industry sessions, continuing education and still make connections that they would miss when they can’t attend in person.” SafetyNet maintains a low-cost Cloud Conventions virtual platform on standby behind a private login until required. It is hosted on a custom URL, is fully branded, customized and organized to host live or on-demand sessions, exhibitor and sponsor booths or provide a resource center for all event-related content. Attendees can be imported from a live event registration system and have their record transferred to SafetyNet including demographics and event access permissions. Sponsors are assigned a virtual booth template and configured to go live without technical assistance, in a matter of hours. “Now that live events have partially returned, many groups ask themselves if virtual events are worth it, so they only focus on their in-person event, often to their detriment,” added Bradfield. “A 2020 study of 1,000 respondents, ‘ Association Trends: From Disruption to Opportunity’ produced by Community Brands, details that having a virtual option for membership participation has changed from a nice-to-have to a must have. Some live events scheduled for the fall of 2021 are being abruptly cancelled due to on-going COVID risks. This is clearly an indicator that the pandemic is far from over. A SafetyNet option is the best insurance that the show will go on, no matter what.” SafetyNet is offered for a low, setup fee to create a fully branded and configured virtual environment. If the organizer chooses to go live with a hybrid or all-virtual event, the setup fee applies to the event package. Show managers can choose as much or as little assistance from Cloud Conventions to bring their event online quickly with all the features needed to educate and engage attendees. Having a virtual option guarantees a rewarding experience for attendees, better ROI for sponsors and ensures smoother event operation for organizers.
