Community Offshore Wind Collects 900 Pounds of Garbage at Spring Creek Park in Howard Beach, NY

On Friday, June 10, members of the Community Offshore Wind team collected 900 pounds of garbage and debris from Spring Creek Park in Howard Beach, NY. This event was organized alongside the American Littoral Society and the Jamaica Bay-Rockaway Parks Conservancy.

Community Offshore Wind is the joint venture between RWE and National Grid that will develop offshore wind in the New York Bight, bringing clean energy to New York and New Jersey. Their seabed lease will power over 1 million homes and businesses. Community Offshore Wind gets its name from a commitment to the communities in the Northeast. On Earth Day, they organized a beach clean-up on Lido Beach, resulting in the collection of 26 pounds of garbage. Their community efforts, however, don’t stop at the beach. They are dedicated to bringing clean energy jobs, building the future offshore wind workforce, working with minority-owned businesses to build a diverse, local supply chain, and providing opportunities for education.
