The “Tiny Titans” and “Wonder Kids,” of the Yellow Brick Road Nursery & Preschool in Highland Park, New Jersey, were curious about the backhoes and other heavy machinery that recently started to appear on the block in front of their school. Since the school had been notified by PSE&G of pending Gas System Modernization Program work, Teacher Sandi Cooks requested a learning experience and Gas Construction Outreach made it happen.

On July 7, Gas Construction Distribution Supervisor Antwine Joynes kept a safe physical distance as he read to the students from a Sesame Street book, “Hooray For Our Heroes,” which is dedicated to the everyday heroes of law enforcement, firefighters and frontline workers. Wearing face masks for closer interaction, Gas Construction Senior Distribution Supervisor Spencer Parks and Public Affairs Specialist Marlene Perfeito handed out PSE&G coloring books and crayons to the students.

The children were attentive as they observed nearby PSE&G crews working and their imaginations sparked by the interaction.

“It was inspirational and informative for the children of tomorrow’s generation to understand our role in the community,” Perfeito said. “PSE&G may not fall into the category of law enforcement, fire fighters or medical frontline workers, however, we do have a fundamental impact in the community to safely ensure that homes across the area have electricity and gas.”
