NHRA Los Angeles Names Mattel CPO Its 2021 Executive of the Year

The National Human Resources Association Los Angeles Chapter (NHRA-LA) is proud to announce Mattel Executive Vice President and Chief People Officer Amy Thompson as its 2021 Executive of the Year.

Thompson was recognized for her outstanding work in transforming Mattel’s culture. Working with the leadership team, she championed the company’s mission and values and ensured optimal collaboration across the global organization operating in 35 countries.

“With all the challenges and shifts in the workplace in the last couple of years, recognizing HR professionals for their remarkable work is more important than ever,” said NHRA-LA Co-President and Bolton Executive Vice President Andrew Agress.

NHRA-LA Co-President and Sodexo Benefits and Rewards Service Director Patti Traglio added, “Amy is a shining example of how HR executives can lead change within their organizations in a way that positively impacts the lives of its associates every day.”

As Chief People Officer at Mattel, Thompson oversees all global human resources functions for its 30,000+ associates, including compensation and benefits, diversity and inclusion, employee culture and engagement, leadership development, organizational design and development, and talent management.

With more than 20 years of experience in human resources roles for standout companies like Ticketmaster, Starbucks, and TOMS, Thompson has a proven track record of being a purpose-driven leader and implementing programs to increase employee engagement and improve organizational design and accountability.

“I share this honor with my whole team,” said Thompson. “At Mattel, the wellbeing and happiness of our employees is a top priority. Throughout the last turbulent 18 months, my team has rallied through personal tough times and created opportunities for everyone to be able to thrive at work.”

Thompson was honored at the LA-NHRA Executive of the Year Gala. She was joined by Executive of the Year finalists: Roxane Lukas, Chief People Officer at Scopely; Verónica García, VP of HR and talent management at Skid Row Housing Trust; Vina Leite chief people officer of The Trade Desk; and Christi Karandikar, executive vice president – HR for Unibail-Rodamco-Westfield.
