PROTEUS™, the world’s most advanced underwater research station, announced today Travel + Leisure has named Founder, Executive and Board Member of Proteus Ocean Group, Ltd., Fabien Cousteau, a Global Vision Award 2022 winner. The recognition marks Cousteau as a changemaker creating a greener future through the combination of innovative ideas and action.

Cousteau has made a lifelong commitment to ocean conservation and exploration, taking a leading role by establishing scientific and educational programs to enable marine research and connect the world to the ocean. The aquanaut, ocean explorer and environmental advocate has accomplished this through projects like PROTEUS™, the International Space Station of the Ocean and Mission 31, the longest science expedition to take place at Aquarius, currently the world’s only underwater marine laboratory. In addition, his non-profit, The Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Center, focuses on protecting and preserving the planet’s waters, coastal areas, and marine habitats by developing educational initiatives, conservation efforts and marine research projects. His non-profit is the largest stakeholder in Proteus Ocean Group, Ltd., creating a significant social enterprise, to run and operate PROTEUS™.

“Being selected as a Global Vision Award 2022 winner is an immense honor. This award highlights the important work that we at PROTEUS™ are doing to move the needle on ocean research and exploration as well as empower youth and communities around the globe to embrace the human-ocean connection,” said Fabien Cousteau, Founder, Executive and Board Member of Proteus Ocean Group. “I am thrilled to be named among so many notable changemakers who are using innovation to create a healthier planet for future generations.”

PROTEUS™ is Cousteau’s vision for the future of commercial ocean research and exploration. The advanced multi-purpose undersea research and education center expands on the legacy of his grandfather, legendary ocean explorer, Jacques Yves Cousteau. Through PROTEUS™, Cousteau aims to enable researchers to live and work at depth towards advancing scientific breakthroughs around the most pressing issues facing the Earth.

The Global Vision Awards 2022 celebrate exceptional work and innovation aimed at building a greener, brighter, and more equitable planet. To arrive at this year’s list of 33 honorees, nominations were sourced from an esteemed panel of industry leaders and experts across the travel, hospitality, retail and non-profit sectors, along with Travel + Leisure editors and correspondents. The final winner selections were made by T+L editors.

The Travel + Leisure Global Vision Awards 2022 will be featured in the April issue of Travel + Leisure and at www.travelandleisure.com/globalvision.
