T-Mobile Teams With Homeland Security To Give First Responder Data Top Priority

T-Mobile

BELLEVUE, Wash., August 2, 2022 /3BL Media/ - Messaging all first responders! Today, T-Mobile (NASDAQ: TMUS) announced first responders’ data is top priority on the Un-carrier’s network automatically and for free when the agency is enrolled in Wireless Priority Service (WPS). T-Mobile is the first and only wireless provider to add data priority in collaboration with the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA). This is yet another benefit of T-Mobile’s groundbreaking Connecting Heroes program, with a streamlined WPS eligibility process. Working with CISA, T-Mobile is simplifying the process for first responders with WPS by making their data priority automatic, and not requiring them to register for it or pay an extra fee. Now, when seconds matter during times of emergency or network congestion, critical communication is prioritized across a first responder’s smartphone, hotspot and/or tablet. Plus, during extreme network congestion or limited connection, the Un-carrier commits available network resources to help maintain a minimum performance of 512kbps for applications. This means, if a first responder is in a situation where a natural disaster may impact service, T-Mobile will give network resources to them first. Similarly, if a first responder is using data in a low-coverage area, the network will automatically reallocate resources to help maintain that critical connection. “We know in an emergency, every second counts and it’s crucial our first responders can communicate with each other whether it’s calling or sending a message. That’s why we’re working with DHS to roll out data priority — so we can be sure that the customers who need it most are getting it without a hassle,” said George Fischer, SVP of Sales, T-Mobile Business Group. “T-Mobile won’t stop when it comes to helping our first responders stay connected in the most extreme situations – and part of that is ensuring access on our network to those that need it, when they need it most.” T-Mobile’s nationwide 5G is a game-changer for first responders who need fast speeds, high capacity and low latency. T-Mobile is the most awarded 5G network in the nation with more than 20 reports in the last two years from third-party industry experts like Ookla and umlaut granting T-Mobile 5G top marks. As America’s 5G leader with the country’s largest, fastest and most reliable 5G network, The Un-carrier’s Extended Range 5G covers nearly everyone in the country – 320 million people across 1.8 million square miles. 235 million people nationwide are covered with super-fast Ultra Capacity 5G, and T-Mobile expects to cover 260 million in 2022 and 300 million next year. All that capacity means T-Mobile has first responders covered from large cities to rural towns. Connecting Heroes is part of T-Mobile’s 10-year commitment to provide free service and 5G access to first responders — all public and non-profit state and local fire, police and EMS departments, and emergency call centers including 911 (PSAPs/ECCs) — potentially saving them up to $7 billion. Since the launch two years ago, first responder agencies and departments around the country have enjoyed the benefits of wireless plans with priority access and preemption, free 5G smartphone service with unlimited data and more 5G smartphones and rugged devices to choose from than ever. Last fall the Un-carrier announced a partnership with Visual Labs so first responders can turn a smartphone into an all-in-one body cam and communications solution. Plus, T-Mobile offers a discount for individual first responders and their families — Magenta First Responder — with 50% off family lines compared to Magenta. For more information on the evolution of Connecting Heroes, visit www.T-Mobile.com/connectingheroes. To enroll in WPS for both voice and data lines, please email WPSMassActivation@T-Mobile.com. Magenta First Responder: Present verification for account holder at activation, maintain first responder line, & re-verify when requested; otherwise plan becomes Magenta (additional cost up to $20/line per month). Capable device required; coverage not available in some areas and may be impacted by emergencies; check your response area. Some uses may require certain plan or feature; see T-Mobile.com. Most Reliable: According to an audit report conducted by independent third-party umlaut containing crowdsourced data for user experience including task completion collected from November 2021 to May 2022. Smart Water Project Expands Internet of Things Solution To Improve Water Quality and Stewardship in Tekax, Yucatán, Mexico

Qualcomm

MÉRIDA, Mexico, July 29, 2022 /3BL Media/ - Qualcomm Incorporated, through its Qualcomm® Wireless Reach™ initiative; the City Council of Tekax; the Secretariat of Sustainable Development of Yucatan, the Social Intelligence Unit; Grupo LAN, Kanan Kab Protección del Mundo A.C., and Colectividad Razontura today announced the expansion of the Smart Water project to reach communities in Tekax. In this next phase, the Smart Water project will serve nearly 1,000 households who access water from the aquifer. The project uses a 4G wireless network, smart sensors powered by Qualcomm® wireless technology and the Dime H 2 O mobile application. Through the Smart Water app, real-time and accurate data is shared with community members to increase awareness and understanding of water quality and care in the local community. The Internet of Things (IoT) sensor-based system sends alerts to water authorities when water quality parameters are out of the normal range, enabling corrective actions. Since 2019, the Smart Water project has been leveraging Qualcomm-enabled technology to provide accurate and real-time data to local water authorities and community members in the City of Merida, the largest city in the Yucatán state. In Merida and Tekax, the only source of drinking water is an aquifer system that is highly vulnerable to contamination from human activities. Having access to clean water is important, especially when a community’s sources of water are susceptible to pollution. One of the key educational components of the project is to host Ferias del Agua (Water Fairs) where community members increase awareness about water preservation and water contamination prevention, gain water quality information, and develop skills to understand the data. These fairs and outreach events, implemented in collaboration with local community organizations, include interactive activities and encourage the use of the Dime H 2 O app. “The Smart Water project contributes to the sustainable water management of our aquifers by engaging communities in keeping the aquifer free from contamination and pollution. We are very proud of our collaboration with Qualcomm through its Wireless Reach Initiative, and the SIU and working together toward improving the water quality of the city of Tekax” says Diego Avila, mayor of Tekax. Phase I results of the Smart Water project include operational efficiencies, as well as more effective management and improved public knowledge of water quality: 80% less time spent by government personnel collecting measurements. 88% of Water Quality Index measurements were within Mexican water quality standards due to the improved water quality monitoring process in the water authority. Nearly 100% of household representatives reported an increase in confidence in water quality knowledge after participating in the water education campaign activities. “The Smart Water project uses our company’s IoT innovations to pioneer an efficient and effective path to improve drinking water quality and, by extension, public health,” says Hector Marin, Senior Director, Government Affairs, QUALCOMM International, Inc. T-Mobile for Business and U.S. Department of Commerce Team Up To Support Minority-Owned Businesses

T-Mobile

BELLEVUE, Wash. and WASHINGTON, July 29, 2022 /3BL Media/ - Today, T-Mobile for Business (NASDAQ: TMUS) and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) announced they are working together to support the growth of U.S. minority-owned businesses. Starting with an educational workshop today, T-Mobile and MBDA will join forces on initiatives that empower minority-owned businesses through webinars, workshops, and events. Minority-owned businesses in the U.S. face an uphill battle. According to a recent report by MBDA, while the number of minority-owned businesses grew 35 percent over the last decade, their average gross receipts (i.e., the amount of money they bring in from all revenue sources) dropped by 16 percent due to systemic barriers that make accessing capital and contracting opportunities more difficult for minority-owned businesses compared to non-minority owned businesses. MBDA is committed to leveling the playing field for MBEs by boosting access to capital and other resources critical to business success. And T-Mobile is ready to help with a wealth of experience from initiatives like Magenta Edge — a program a part of the Un-carrier’s Equity In Action Plan that provides educational resources to minority small business owners. “Despite America’s 9.7 million minority-owned businesses making up one-third of total U.S. business and generating $1.7 trillion in revenue for the nation’s economy, they continue to face systemic barriers,” said Miguel Estién, MBDA Acting National Director. “Now as a permanent agency, we have more resources than ever to dedicate to breaking down those barriers. When minority business owners and entrepreneurs are given equitable access and opportunity, they succeed at the highest levels. Our partnership with T-Mobile for Business strengthens our collective mission to break down barriers and help every minority-owned business succeed.” To kick off the collaboration, T-Mobile, with MBDA’s participation, is launching an educational workshop today to help minority-owned businesses prepare for Buy Minority Business Enterprises (MBE) Day on September 24. MBDA launched Buy MBE Day in 2020 to encourage consumers and businesses across the U.S. to buy from local, minority-owned businesses. With Buy MBE Day fast approaching, T-Mobile and MBDA want to ensure minority-owned businesses have all the resources they need to maximize the day. This workshop will provide information on retail strategies for staffing, inventory, and advertising with an in-depth toolkit of social, web, and in-store tactics. “We’re inspired by the amazing work our public sector customers, like the U.S. Department of Commerce, do every day — but it’s not every day that our values align so perfectly,” said David Bezzant, Vice President, T-Mobile for Government. “At T-Mobile, we believe it’s essential to build a more inclusive environment for every business to thrive. Working with a like-minded organization like MBDA to help minority-owned businesses grow brings us one step closer to achieving that goal.” Supporting the 9 million plus minority-owned businesses in the U.S. isn’t just a priority for MBDA and T-Mobile — it's a federal priority. Thanks to the Minority Business Development Act of 2021, the MBDA is now a permanent federal agency with presidentially appointed leadership, a permanent grants program, and a forthcoming advisory council. Mobile Telecom - Leading and Enabling the Path to Net Zero

Ericsson

The Science-Based Pathway to Net Zero for the ICT industry (as defined by the SBTi ) requires mobile network operators to slash operational emissions by 45% between 2020 and 2030. Over the same period, fixed network operators must reduce their emissions by 62%, and data centers by 53%. To discuss how operators are going to meet these targets while upgrading to the latest technology, Ericsson recently held a roundtable, “ Building efficient 5G networks—the journey to Net Zero emissions ”, with the participation of GSMA Intelligence and Omdia.  The adoption of 5G will also play a key role. According to Paul Challoner, VP of Network Product Solutions at Ericsson, 5G is currently about 40% more energy efficient than 4G. “But in the long run once all the energy efficiency features are implemented 5G should be 10 times more efficient than 4G,” said Challoner. Those gains are a combination of more efficient hardware (e.g., power amplifiers) and more intelligent software that, for example, enables greater use of sleep mode for radio transmitters at night. “The network is dimensioned for the busiest hour of the day,” explains Challoner, “by using AI, operators can predict the usage of the network more accurately allowing them to maximize the sleep mode windows that can be safely used without impacting performance”.
