Singer-Songwriter Ava Paige Makes Music With My Special Aflac Duck®

Aflac Incorporated

Nashville singer-songwriter and cancer survivor Ava Paige knows all too well that “the things that make you better don’t come that easily,” a lyric she wrote as part of a song she performed for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals patients, caregivers and health care professionals alongside My Special Aflac Duck®, a robotic companion for pediatric cancer and sickle cell disease patients. Ava, 17, has been singing and writing songs since she was a small child and is an up-and-coming star in the Nashville music scene, working with the industry’s best. While on tour in 2019, she was diagnosed with leukemia, putting her bourgeoning music career on hold. After two and a half years of battling her disease, she claimed the title of cancer survivor and is now a Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals ambassador, helping others on their journey. “Being a teenager with cancer is definitely different because you’re able to communicate better with your doctors and comprehend what’s going on,” Ava said. “But even being older, I had a hard time explaining what I was going through. Having something like [ My Special Aflac Duck ] to show your doctors what the duck is feeling can help children express their own emotions.” Ava serenaded My Special Aflac Duck with an original song about staying strong, a very special musical performance that closed out the Children’s Hospitals Week event in April. “Ava Paige is a remarkable person who shares this journey through the gift of song, and I’m glad she’s teamed up with My Special Aflac Duck to share her talents and encourage others still on the path to recovery,” said Buffy Swinehart, senior manager, Aflac Corporate Social Responsibility. “Our philanthropic focus is helping children with cancer and sickle cell disease — we celebrate every time one of them overcomes these terrible illnesses — and National Cancer Survivors Day is yet another reminder to reflect on the difficult journeys patients have taken and the odds they’ve beaten to become a survivor.” My Special Aflac Duck i s a social robot that offers a sense of comfort, joy, and control to children undergoing cancer treatment or living with sickle cell disease. Aflac, along with Sproutel, a patient-centered research and development company, debuted My Special Aflac Duck for pediatric cancer patients in 2018, and two years later introduced one with features and play accessories designed specifically for sickle cell patients. For over 26 years, Aflac has been helping to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children with cancer, starting in 1995 with the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center of Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, then joining Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals as a national partner in 2016. To date, Aflac has raised and contributed more than $160 million to pediatric cancer and blood disorders and has donated and distributed more than 15,000 My Special Aflac Ducks to 300-plus hospitals and disease-focused organizations. In honor of National Cancer Survivors Day, join Ava and Aflac in being a part of someone’s survivor journey by making a contribution to the Children’s Miracle Network. # # # Aflac | WWHQ | 1932 Wynnton Road | Columbus, GA 31999 Z2200627   View additional multimedia and more ESG storytelling from Aflac Incorporated on 3blmedia.com

Kitchen Magic Defines the Hybrid Kitchen

Kitchen Magic

Kitchen Magic outlines the combinations, homeowners are discovering along with the multitude of reasons why a customized hybrid kitchen may be the perfect solution for their next home remodeling project. Top Reasons Why a Hybrid Kitchen Makes Perfect Design Sense Essentially a hybrid kitchen is a design plan that combines both refacing and custom cabinetry. Refacing saves substantially on budget, allowing you to reinvest in other features and upgrades. Additional custom cabinetry or a new island creates valuable additional storage space and that visual change homeowners often want. The new cabinetry added into a hybrid kitchen remodel will perfectly match the refaced, existing cabinet boxes. The result is a highly personalized and transformative kitchen design. This hybrid approach improves the aesthetics and function of a kitchen, while also increasing the property value should you decide to sell down the road. The 2022 cost vs. value report says that a minor kitchen remodel will return 74.7% of the investment Make it personal A hybrid kitchen can include any type of custom-built cabinets, a desk, or a customized display case that matches the refacing cabinets for a unified space. Our design consultants often propose creative ideas for storage solutions, addressing issues you may not have even known you had. A good example of that might be creating a designated storage space for dry goods, spices, cooking essentials, and other everyday items. All of these improvements go a long way in helping you stay organized. How to hybrid Hybrid kitchens are a top trend in Kitchen Magic kitchens, and most homeowners utilize a hybrid design model to one degree or another. Designers do not see that trend slowing since the outcome is a custom solution for every customer. Even with the pandemic in the rear-view mirror, many homeowners still have enhanced storage on their wish lists. We’ve outlined several of the most popular design scenarios for which a homeowner embraces a hybrid design plan: Pass on the peninsula Adding a custom kitchen island instead of a peninsula is more conducive to gatherings. Homeowners with older homes often bid adieu to their kitchen peninsula, as the U-shape is a configuration that tends to "trap" people into a particular prep or dining area. Instead, allow your kitchen design team to create a kitchen island for increased workflow. A kitchen island is also a user-friendly layout for dining and social gatherings. Storage space galore Stock up and add a bank of cabinets, a buffet, a credenza, or a pantry. Copious storage is more critical than ever as remote work and more time at home have become permanent for many. A top request of homeowners is additional storage for dry goods, small appliances, and cooking equipment allowing them to keep stocked up and maintain a high-functioning kitchen. An empty corner can become that creates a personalized focal point for your new kitchen design. Imagine a coffee station, device charging zone, bar area or even a display case as an empty corner becomes your ‘statement’ corner. Working from home A built-in desk offers a welcome addition to working and learning at home. On those days you can avoid the commute, and stay just as functional with an additional work-from-home zone. Reface the existing cabinets and add a custom deck that suits your home office needs. Design details A hybrid kitchen design allows your to claim extra space and even double your existing space with smart storage solutions, Whether you plan to add a pantry, credenza, or a mudroom with cabinets, the sky's the limit with the help of the skilled craftspeople and designers at Kitchen Magic. Sustainability, Why It Makes Business Sense - A Discussion With Students From the University Of St. Gallen

Musim Mas

By Devane Sharma With the growing awareness of issues such as climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution flows and topics like social justice, sustainability moves into the central focus of businesses and regulators around the world. Universities are adding modules and embedding sustainability into their curriculums. One such module is the University of St.Gallen’s (Switzerland) Asia Compact course on “Sustainability in Singapore and Southeast Asia, part of the Masters of General Management program. The course takes place over an intensive week at the St.Gallen Institute of Management’s satellite campus in Singapore. The students focus on social and environmental sustainability across key industries in the Southeast Asia region, to discuss sustainability challenges, opportunities, and solutions for business and supply chain management. On the 14TH of April, the 2022 cohort heard perspectives from Dr. Janice Lee of the Nanyang Technological University on Sustainability in the Palm Oil Industry, and Carolyn Lim, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications at Musim Mas on an industry perspective. Here are three key questions that emerged from the session. Why Does Musim Mas Place Such a Strong Emphasis on Supporting Smallholders? Independent smallholder farmers manage over 40% or 4.2 million hectares of oil palm plantations in Indonesia. Roughly, this represents an area similar to size to that of Switzerland, but the plantations are more geographically dispersed around the vast Indonesian archipelago. This makes it harder to access these farmers to provide them with knowledge and resources. Smallholder farmers may lack access to land deeds and hence finance, e.g., for fertilizers. They also tend to lack agricultural knowledge and consequently tend to have lower yields than industrial plantations. Through Musim Mas’ Smallholder program, we help them improve output. This includes smallholders that do not necessarily supply to us. With the industry producing more, we help relieve land-use pressures to meet the world’s vegetable oil demand. The farmers themselves will also gain improved livelihoods with as their yields improve. Why Would a Business, Like Musim Mas, Bother About Sustainability? Being a sustainable palm company makes business sense. Having NGOs such as Earthqualizer and the Radar for Detecting Deforestation (RADD) assess our plantations has enabled us to achieve externally verified 100% traceability-to-plantation for all our mills. As a result, we prove to regulators and companies that buy from us that we are committed to our No Deforestation Peat and Exploitation (NDPE) policy. Therefore, looking at it in a purely business sense, sustainability can be seen as a risk-mitigation tool that also provides a value-add to a business’ value proposition. Another example of how being sustainable has benefited us is our methane captures. Methane is a greenhouse gas that is more than 25 times as potent as Carbon Dioxide in trapping heat in the atmosphere. Our mills are fitted with methane captures which, in 2020, avoided the release of over 500,000 MT Carbon Dioxide equivalent or CO2e. We then harnessed the methane to produce electricity for our mills. The excess, a whopping 32 million kWh, was exported to the national grid. Having methane captures installed enabled us to demonstrate that we meet environmental commitments and therefore be able to produce biodiesels for European markets. What then Needs to Be Done to Help Improve Sustainability Across the Industry? Collaboration and cooperation are essential. Musim Mas supports the Indonesian government initiatives to improve smallholder livelihoods, and that is why we expanded our outreach to a district level. To that end, we run smallholder hubs where we provide training for government agricultural extension officers on a train-they-trainer basis so they can then reach even more smallholders. We also collaborate with downstream companies in the supply chain such as Nestle and AAK, NGOs such as the Southeast Asia Rainforest Research Partnership (SEARRP), and academia such as ETH Zurich, among others. Defining Purpose: Any Road Will Take You There, If You Don't Know Where (or Why) You're Going

Carol Cone ON PURPOSE

CSR, ESG, social impact, corporate citizenship … The more accepted “purpose” becomes as a core business strategy, the more challenging it becomes to define “it.” Over my 30-plus years of shaping the practice of linking businesses with social and environmental issues, I’ve seen many phrases used (and misused). While some terms have stood the test of time, others are now outdated. No matter what terminology used, you and your colleagues should have a shared understanding of what “purpose” means in your organization to gain its greatest benefits. It’s critical to have consensus on the objectives for this strategy, which stakeholders to engage, and desired results. Otherwise, your purpose-related strategies may not deliver. To help your journey, consider this an up-to-date glossary for responsible business professionals, presented in alphabetical order. Brand purpose: What a brand stands for and how it strives to achieve business and societal benefit. Well-executed brand purpose adds value to a brand, often with the goal to build and deepen relationships between the brand and consumers. Cause branding: An evolution of cause marketing, cause branding is a phrase I developed in 1998 to coincide with our third national research study. As I wrote in the early 2000s, cause branding is “a powerful positioning discipline used to enliven brand equity and enhance corporate image with significant bottom-line and community impacts.” Cause marketing: Initiatives or campaigns “ implemented by for-profit businesses that seek to better society, ” often involving a nonprofit partner or giving mechanism integrated at point-of-sale. Think: donations at the register or a percent of proceeds going to a cause. Usually periodic and transactional. Corporate citizenship: Boston College’s Center for Corporate Citizenship defines the practice as “how a company exercises its rights, obligations, privileges and overall responsibility within our local and global environments. Great corporate citizenship goes beyond a focus on addressing surface-level sustainability efforts with today’s leading responsible corporations drawing on the collective impact of a variety of initiatives that address an array of trends and emerging issues.” Corporate social responsibility (CSR): CSR constitutes a “self-regulating business model that helps a company be socially accountable – to itself, its stakeholders, and the public.” This term was originally popularized in Europe in the 1980s and grew in the US in the 1990s, with a focus on philanthropy and community engagement. However, CSR does not necessarily include operational, governance and environmental components. Beware confusing CSR with broader concepts of corporate responsibility or ESG. ESG: ESG stands for the environmental, social and governance-related commitments, programs, policies and practices to measure the sustainability and ethical impact of a business or company. ESG comprises a set of financial and non-financial factors that are increasingly being considered by investors as part of their analysis to identify material risks and growth opportunities within organizations and sectors. Greenwashing: Conveying the impression of sustainability or being environmentally friendly to take advantage of the “halo” effect that such actions bring to a company. Investopedia notes that greenwashing is “considered an unsubstantiated claim to deceive consumers into believing a company’s products are environmentally friendly.” Or said another way, disinformation disseminated by an organization to convey an inaccurate, environmentally responsible public image (see recent examples from Innocent and KLM ). Cousins to greenwashing include “ purpose-washing ” — bestowing a fake commitment to embrace society and/or the environment within a business or brand. Movement marketing: The practice of applying marketing principles to generate, sustain and amplify movements linked to a relevant cultural and/or social issue. Movement marketing aims to tap into shared values, passions and objectives between organizations and society. Philanthropy: Philanthropy involves “charitable acts or other good works that help others or society as a whole.” Corporate philanthropy typically involves grant-making, financial gifts to nonprofit organizations, and other activities that are largely a one-way (corporation to nonprofit) exchange. Purpose: An organization’s aspirational reason for being, beyond profits — grounded in humanity. Reputation: Corporate reputation is determined by a variety of factors. Reputation Leaders frames it as the overall image of a company, which rests on four pillars: brand, people, purpose and profit. Stakeholders assess reputation from their personal experience and trusted third parties to evaluate how a company performs, how it conducts itself, and how well it communicates. Shared value: Often used in the context of mutually beneficial partnerships between corporations and nonprofits, shared value is actually a broader approach to business which involves “pursuing financial success in a way that also yields societal benefits.” This is not about shared values, but rather an approach to business fundamentals — such as how products interact with supply chains. Social impact: Sometimes used alongside “business impact,” the term social impact refers to “ a significant, positive change that addresses a pressing social challenge. ” Stakeholder capitalism: A movement spearheaded by organizations including JUST Capital, stakeholder capitalism is a system in which corporations are oriented to serve the interests of all their stakeholders — including communities, employees, customers, the environment, and others — not just shareholders. Sustainability: The United Nations Brundtland Commission proposed the following definition of “sustainability” in 1987: Sustainability is “meeting the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.” This definition has withstood time, and is used by academics, policy leaders, and leading businesses today. Collaborating for Sustainability: Musim Mas Group & Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food Host Second Joint Supplier Workshop in Aceh, Indonesia

Musim Mas

April 19, 2022 /3BL Media/ - Palm oil is the most widely-consumed and efficient vegetable oil. Its application ranges from food products to cosmetics and even industrial uses. To produce it sustainably, leading palm oil producers commit to “ No Deforestation, No Peat, and No Exploitation (NDPE)”, sustainability certifications, and “ Traceability to Plantation (TTP)”. To advance knowledge-sharing on palm oil sustainability, on 29 to 30 March, palm oil majors Musim Mas Group and Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food jointly hosted their second supplier workshop and Focus Group Discussion (FGD) in Langsa, and Kuala Simpang, Aceh. It was attended by 55 participants, consisting of representatives of supplier mills, local traders and farmers, government officials, and civil society organizations (CSO). Collaborative workshops allow palm oil companies to reach out to a wider group of suppliers beyond their supply chain. It is vital that all stakeholders, including farmers, local government, and civil society organizations, recognize and support such efforts. Partnerships in priority landscapes are essential to push for the industry’s transformation at scale. The workshop covered three crucial topics – NDPE, TTP, and Indonesia Sustainable Palm Oil (ISPO) certification. Through the sessions, participants were able to gain insights into the importance of NDPE compliance and ISPO certification for the long-term sustainability of their business. The impact of NDPE compliance on the acceptance of Indonesian palm oil products in the global market was also discussed in the workshop. In addition, discussions revolved around building transparency and good communications to enable joint efforts towards NDPE compliance. The first session introduced the NDPE Policy and its importance as a foundation for ISPO certification and how NDPE is a global requirement. The session also covered current deforestation monitoring systems and how grievances are managed. In the second session, the focus was to introduce suppliers to the ISPO certification system and the benefits of ISPO certification for companies and smallholders and define the correlation between achieving ISPO certification and complying with NDPE Policy. ISPO certification is key to increasing access to the global market. The last session underlined the importance of TTP to ensure NDPE compliance, allowing the identification of precise sourcing areas. The session also explains deforestation monitoring using satellite monitoring systems. Suppliers were encouraged to monitor deforestation on their own using publicly accessible platforms. At the end of the workshop, Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food and Musim Mas also sought better insights into Aceh suppliers' perceptions and commitment to the NDPE Policy and their plan toward ISPO certification. Through an FGD session, participants shared their perspectives and found a common agreement that all stakeholders – not limited to companies and smallholders – must work hand in hand to achieve the industry's sustainable goals. "The enthusiasm shown by the participants reflects how important it is to hold workshops in the production areas. Workshops are a key element of our "Aceh Strategy" of contributing to sustainable agricultural production in Aceh. Such workshops enable engagement on the NDPE concept and how it can translate into action by mills, local traders, and farmers. The discussions were very open and lively, which shows the trust built during the workshop. We were happy to work again with Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food in the important landscape that is Aceh. We believe palm oil companies should collaborate for deforestation and exploitation-free supply chains." - Olivier Tichit, Director of Sustainability, Musim Mas. “The joint workshop with Musim Mas is manifestation of our commitment to support the palm oil industry transformation in sustainability. Not only were we able to socialise the NDPE requirements, but it is an opportunity for us to listen and engage our stakeholders to address their challenges in implementing sustainable practices. Our hope is that this activity can open up opportunities for further in-depth programmes to support our supply chain to implement Good Agronomy Practice (GAP), Best Management Practice (BMP), and acquiring certification both for companies and smallholders.” – Wahyu W. Wijayanti, Head of Traceable and Transparent Production, Sinar Mas Agribusiness and Food. ______________________________ ______________________________ ______________________ About Musim Mas Headquartered in Singapore, Musim Mas is one of the world's largest integrated palm oil corporations, with operations in every part of the supply chain across the Americas, Europe, and Asia. Improving the Music Industry in the Metaverse by Adshares x Cyber Live Partnership

Adshares

In a new partnership, Adshares and Cyber Live will enhance user experience in the metaverse for interactive music concerts. The Adshares protocol will play a key role in the advertising and marketing of the emerging music platform, bringing promotional solutions for artists, as well as earning opportunities for landowners and event producers in the Cyber Live Metaverse. The first component that will be released as early as Q3 2022 will be the streaming platform Cyber Live Broadcast, known as CyberCast. Here, users will be able to watch and engage in concerts through a multi-view streaming experience - interacting with artists from different perspectives. Ads will be displayed from different angles throughout the events. Over time, advertisers will discover the best places to display ads and publishers will be able to effectively monetize their spaces. An important note - as on other platforms, users can choose between premium and basic account options. It is in the basic account where users will view the ads. The function of the Adshares protocol will also enable the establishment of sponsor relationships on the platform. Sponsors can highlight products or services on stage to audiences across the globe - just like in the real world. In addition to live virtual concerts, advertisers will be able to display ads and reach users through Cyber Live's second component - its Marketplace. There, users can mint and sell NFTs, as well as purchase concert tickets, avatars, and additional interactive features - all of these transactions being conducted through the platform’s native currency $CYLIV. Naturally, users will be able to advertise items on the marketplace directly using the Adshares ad servers. https://vimeo.com/700207075 The last component and one of Cyber Live’s primary goals is the development of its own metaverse - a virtual decentralized space for users from the world of the arts. Users will be able to interact with various art objects in full virtual reality as well as in Augmented Reality (AR). In the Cyber Live Metaverse, it will be possible to generate income by monetizing land, renting spaces, and producing creative events. Advertising is not an afterthought here and advertisers could use various art objects as display mediums. For the music venue creators, this means additional income, and for advertisers (mainly artists) this is a new opportunity to draw attention to their performances or events. Additionally, the recently introduced metaverse ad targeting feature will greatly assist advertisers in reaching a defined group of users. Artists and event producers will be able to target a specific audience and announce relevant upcoming concerts. Artists can engage with their audience even further by taking advantage of Adshares protocol features to their fullest. For example, concert producers can build and implement branded interactive 3D models for music venues that will contain information about the artists, events, and more. Every component of the Cyber Live ecosystem, in synergy with the Adshares protocol, will bring a new experience between the artists and users. This partnership will enhance artists' understanding of marketing in the metaverse, offering new opportunities to monetize their craft. About Cyber Live Cyber Live is an emerging platform bridging the gap between virtual and live entertainment events for artists, fans, event producers, and more by bringing revolutionary concert experiences through blockchain technology. Through Cyber Live’s interconnected ecosystem comprised of CyberCast, Marketplace, and Metaverse - artists can showcase their creativity and engage with their audience around the world, while the platform’s unique tokenomics allow for promoters and creators to host and monetize their own events through NFTs. About Adshares Forever evolving indispensable new features and developing the protocol, the Adshares team is already defining the standards for blockchain marketing and advertising in the metaverse. Optimized and decentralized solutions can be implemented by any businesses in both web2 and web3 spaces. The $ADS cryptocurrency, as a payment tool in advertising transactions, greatly facilitates and improves the interaction between publishers and advertisers.
