Don’t Give This Company The Brush Off? Brüush Offers Mid-Priced Electric Toothbrush In An Interesting Market

Bruush Oral Care Inc.

While the jury’s still out on whether electric toothbrushes are more effective than manual ones, a number of companies are betting consumers will increasingly adopt them. https://profiles.smallcapsdaily.com/bruush/ The American Dental Association says both manual and electric brushes remove plaque and bacteria from teeth — so long as you’re using a proper brushing technique. More recently, the Journal of the American Dental Association published a survey that found that 13,000 out of 16,000 patients who used an electric toothbrush reported better oral health. The global electric toothbrush market size was estimated to be worth $4.3 billion in 2022 and projected to increase to just over $6 billion by 2027, according to Statista. Some are betting big with high-priced devices, while others are banking on consumers looking for value. And then there are those that fall somewhere in the middle. Koninklijke Philips N.V.’ s (NYSE: PHG) Sonicare line has a variety of options, with the least expensive starting at about $20 and the company’s most advanced electric toothbrush — which gets guidance from an app using artificial intelligence — selling for $380. Joining Philips with a lower-end offering is Quip. Starter kits for Quip’s adult electric toothbrushes start at $20. You get the handle with three-month battery life, a soft-bristle brush head and a cover. Quip will send you a new brush head and free battery every three months for $5. Brushing Off The Competition? Then there’s Brüush (NASDAQ: BRSH), which says it takes the confusion out of deciding what to buy with its $79 electric toothbrush kit. Brüush, which comes in three core colors and the seasonal colors, has six cleaning modes for every type of brusher. The company’s website says Gentle makes smiles clean and bright, while the Tongue mode keeps your mouth smelling fresh. Brüush estimates 70% of its customer base is between ages 18 and 45 years old, a group that’s under-penetrated compared to baby boomers in terms of using an electric toothbrush. This age group also consists of the first digital generations when it comes to shopping and e-commerce brand loyalty to businesses like Apple Inc. (AAPL), perhaps a positive for a company where the website accounts for the majority of sales. If you’re in the market for an electric toothbrush, Brüush says to be sure to buy one that comfortably fits inside your mouth — usually, smaller is better so you can maneuver it to make sure you’re brushing all your teeth. Looking for a brush with soft bristles that are gentle on teeth and gums to avoid irritation is a good idea — a self-timer feature also is recommended to ensure you brush the full two minutes dentists recommend. Toothbrush heads should be replaced every 12 weeks — which makes Brüush’s subscription model that sends customers three new brush heads for $18 every six months a convenient way to stay on top of changing them. By comparison, replacing brush heads for Sonicare products can cost as much as $43 for a three-pack, and the price of the Procter & Gamble Co. (NYSE: PG) Oral-B line of replacement brush heads reaches as high as $40 for a three-pack. Visit Brüush’s website to learn more about the company and its products. About Bruush Oral Care Inc. Bruush Oral Care Inc. is on a mission to inspire confidence through brighter smiles and better oral health. Founded in 2018, Brüush is an oral care company that is disrupting the space by reducing the barriers between consumers and access to premium oral care products. Brüush has developed a product to make upgrading to an electric brush appealing with three core priorities in mind: (i) a high-quality electric toothbrush at a more affordable price than a comparable electric toothbrush from the competition; (ii) a sleek, countertop-friendly design; and (iii) a convenient brush head refill subscription program that eliminates the frustrating experience of purchasing replacement brush heads at the grocery/drug store. Gilead Sciences and a Coalition of LGBTQ+ and Human Rights-Focused Organizations Mobilize to Address Monkeypox Public Health Emergency

Gilead Sciences

Gilead Will Provide up to $5 Million in Global Grant Funding to Immediately Support Public Education and Vaccine Hesitancy Communications, a Public Policy Response and a Global Outbreak Emergency Fund for Community Organizations in Regions with Active Monkeypox Outbreaks FOSTER CITY, Calif., August 16, 2022 /3BL Media/-- Gilead Sciences, Inc. (Nasdaq: GILD), GLAAD, the Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC), the National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) and NMAC recently announced immediate action in response to the emerging monkeypox virus (MPV) outbreak, which is disproportionately impacting the LGBTQ+ community, particularly men who have sex with men (MSM), as well as those who are living with HIV. Gilead will provide up to $5 million in global grant funding to help support three areas of focus: a public education and vaccine hesitancy communications campaign, a public policy response and a global outbreak emergency fund. The MPV outbreak was declared a public health emergency by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on August 4. A recent study in the New England Journal of Medicine looked at 528 MPV infections diagnosed between April 27 and June 24, at 43 sites in 16 countries. Of that group, 98% of the cases were among gay or bisexual men and 41% were living with HIV. “Throughout our history, Gilead has worked to address critical public health challenges and healthcare disparities, particularly those faced by the LGBTQ+ community or impacted by the HIV epidemic,” said Deborah Telman, Executive Vice President, Corporate Affairs and General Counsel, Gilead Sciences. “Today we are proud to work with our longtime collaborators around the world to help meet the immediate needs of impacted communities and to help identify longer term solutions to this emerging crisis. At Gilead, we are also accelerating and expanding our early-stage antiviral drug screening program to identify new molecules for potential future treatment of MPV infection.” Funding will help support three key areas of response. Gilead’s Global Monkeypox Outbreak Emergency Fund will provide grants of up to $50,000 to existing grantee organizations working in regions with active MPV outbreaks to respond to this growing emergency. Funds may be used to cover expenses such as community mobilization activities specifically addressing MPV outbreak in communities disproportionately impacted by HIV, operating costs related to HIV testing and service interruptions and essential safety materials. GLAAD, HRC, NBJC and NCLR will help continue to ensure that critical information about MPV reaches impacted communities. This comprehensive communications campaign will help LGBTQ+ people and people living with HIV receive accurate, accessible and targeted information so they are able to make informed decisions about how to prevent and treat MPV. Public education efforts from the national coalition will include creation of videos, graphics and other information resources focused on vaccines, prevention and treatment to be distributed to media, community centers and organizations, as well as organizers and managers of LGBTQ+ events and venues. “As we saw with HIV, COVID-19, and now MPV, disinformation continues to challenge the LGBTQ+ community,” said Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO, GLAAD. “This new collaboration will enable creating and distributing content and resources to help our community know the facts and to understand prevention and treatment for MPV. When communities receive accurate, timely information, they are empowered to take appropriate action, leading to long-lasting, positive health outcomes.” “As MPV continues to impact our communities, we’re witnessing a concerning amount of misinformation and confusion,” said Joni Madison, Interim President, HRC. “That misinformation is especially harmful to BIPOC communities who historically are sidelined when it comes to equitable access to care and treatment. Over the past several weeks, we’ve also seen the LGBTQ+ community doing what we’ve always had to do: caring and advocating for each other. In the same vein, we look forward to working together with Gilead and other partner organizations to combat the stigma that prevents people from seeking the care they need.” “The National Black Justice Coalition is excited to be a part of this coordinated effort to prevent the spread of MPV across the U.S., especially among the Black LGBTQ+/SGL community and people living with HIV/AIDS,” said David J. Johns, Ph.D., Executive Director, National Black Justice Coalition. “We have engaged with key decision-makers since the outbreak emerged to ensure our community is included, in non-stigmatizing ways, in public health campaigns, is educated about the dangers of this virus, and is connected to care. Responses must be democratized so information, testing and treatment resources reach people who have the greatest need and the fewest resources.” “There has been a lack of accurate information about MPV and that has, and will continue to negatively and disproportionately hurt the health and well-being of the LGBTQ+ community, communities of color and people at the intersections of these underrepresented identities,” said Imani Rupert-Gordon, Executive Director, NCLR. “We are seeing the number of MPV cases across the country increase and our community expects and deserves access to education and resources to help combat the virus, and feel safe in their communities.” NMAC will act as the policy response organizing center to help address policy issues related to HIV and MPV. Funding from Gilead will help NMAC inform public policy to drive a more comprehensive, swift and coordinated community response. “NMAC is grateful to Gilead for their leadership on this critical issue,” said Paul Kawata, Executive Director, NMAC. “Through our extensive contacts at the federal level and with the support of our community partners, we will work with both the White House and Congress to provide the necessary resources to deal with this outbreak. Our top priorities will include making sure that vaccine access is equitable for all communities at risk and that any outreach plans will include ways to deal with vaccine hesitancy in a culturally competent way.” Collaboration is crucial to support the sustainability of community partners and these groups will work together to monitor the evolving MPV landscape to impact response. Duke Energy Ramps Up Environmental Efforts, Joins Forces To Protect Vulnerable Wildlife in Florida

Duke Energy

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla., August 5, 2022 /3BL Media/ - As part of its commitment to support the vitality of a healthy ecosystem, Duke Energy Florida has aligned efforts with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS), among other agencies, to protect a population of federally endangered wildflowers in central Florida. Earlier this spring, Duke Energy environmental scientists joined various agencies and stakeholders to maximize the preservation and protection of the federally endangered clasping warea (Warea amplexifolia) and the federally threatened sand skink (Neoseps reynoldsi) found in an unincorporated community in Marion County, near Ocklawaha. The annual wildflower occurs nowhere else in the world other than the central ridges in Florida, with the Ocklawaha population being among one of the largest of identified populations. By protecting the plant’s habitat, the team is supporting other species that depend on it, like the sand skink. “Powering the lives of our communities extends far beyond keeping the lights on for our customers,” said Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president. “Duke Energy is proud to work alongside our community allies to protect Florida’s most-treasured species and the habitats they depend on.” A first for Duke Energy in Florida, the company is installing “sensitive habitat” management signage within its rights-of-way corridors to alert contractors and crews working in these areas. The company has also shifted its vegetation management practices to limit mowing and lower the volume of herbicide used in targeted areas to help the plants grow and flourish. “Duke Energy Florida’s willingness to support management of the endangered clasping warea on its lands alongside the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service’s Partners for Fish and Wildlife Program speaks volumes,” said USFWS’ Partners for Fish and Wildlife/Coastal Program Coordinator Chad Allison. “The cooperation inspires and engages a network of state and federal agencies, nongovernmental organizations, and private landowners alike proving conservation and industry can not only coexist but can ultimately thrive.” The collaboration furthers Duke Energy and Duke Energy Foundation’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement. Since 2015, the Duke Energy Foundation has provided more than $188,000 in grants to the Rare Plant Conservation program at Bok Tower Gardens to establish new populations of the clasping warea through seed preservation, habitat quality improvements, biological research and increasing plant numbers in the wild. Among the project team leading these efforts are Duke Energy Florida, USFWS, Florida Native Plant Society (FNPS), Bok Tower Gardens, FNPS-Marion Big Scrub Chapter, Putnam Land Conservancy, as well as volunteers and private landowners. The team will continue to engage landowners in the area, bringing awareness to the ways they can support and protect the species now and in the future. Nocera — A Company Fishing For Green Energy Solutions?

Nocera

https://profiles.smallcapsdaily.com/ncra/ U.S. fishing and aquaculture is a major industry, with its pre-pandemic 2019 value sitting at $255 billion. But the industry was seriously affected by COVID — both from restaurant closings and interruptions to the global supply chain — with fishery imports falling 37% in just the first few months of 2020. This did not necessarily reflect a decline in fish consumption; in fact, retail fish sales increased even while food-service fish sales rapidly declined. This may make the market situation particularly attractive to companies like Nocera Inc. (OTC: NCRA), which says it has aspirations to enter the U.S. fish and aquaculture market. Nocera is a U.S. recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) production and consulting company based in Taiwan. It reports that it provides services in engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) of its land-based fish farms and is focused on cost-efficiency and sustainability. Swimming Upstream in a Polluted Market? Nocera reports that its farms are efficient, with its tanks producing up to 30,000 pounds of fish annually — and that its work is also in line with the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals to minimize waste and pollution. Nocera boasts that it is able to recycle 90% of the water used to maximize the energy efficiency loop, and has also introduced a system where solar panels standing above the fish tanks can satisfy the farm’s energy needs. It matches this sustainability with production efficiency, which means it is able to farm at 80 times the production rate of a traditional fish farm, according to its website. This model, with tanks that have reportedly minimal production costs while also outproducing alternatives, may attract smaller farms that see it as an opportunity to enter the market. When matched with a goal of a cost-effective production model, this has seemingly led to growth allowing Nocera to proudly describe itself as “the most recommended circulating water equipment company in Asia” as of December 2020. Company growth continued, with 2021 seeing $9.9 million in revenue, an increase of over 700% from 2020. Nocera CEO Jeff Cheng reacted to 2021 results saying, “We are pleased to report significant growth in our total sales, operating income and shareholders’ equity. Fiscal 2021 saw strong growth in our construction services division. We expect there to be continued strong demand for our recirculating aquaculture systems as well as construction services.” The company states that it achieves this partly through its cost-effective building materials and its emphasis on tilapia. Tilapia is relatively cheap to farm, and in a fish market dominated by mainly Norwegian salmon farms like Mowi ASA (OTC: MHGVY) and Lerøy Seafood Group ASA (OTC: LYSFF), along with HF Foods Group Inc (NASDAQ: HFFG) Blue Star Foods (NASDAQ:BSFC) andAquaBounty Technologies (NASDAQ:AQB) Nocera is hoping its emphasis on tilapia and catfish will be beneficial — especially as the tilapia market is forecast to grow at a compound annual rate of 6.1% from 2021 to 2026. Learn more about Nocera by visiting its website. Nocera, Inc. is an engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) company that designs, builds, and installs equipment for the fish farming industry, as well as provides technical assistance to fish farm operations. Our Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (“RAS”) help preserve the environment by reducing pollution from over concentration of fish as often occurs in fish farms based in natural inland waterways or bodies. Nocera’s RAS tanks can produce 20,000 – 30,000 lbs. of fish annually. This post contains sponsored advertising content. Powering the Life Science Industry With Renewable Energy

MilliporeSigma

Sustainable practices—reducing greenhouse gas emissions, lowering resource and water consumption, and improving waste management practices—can help a company positively address its environmental impact. However, targeting renewable energy through a virtual power purchase agreement (VPPA) can significantly reduce a company’s carbon footprint across its operations while enabling and supporting the renewable energy industry for a greener future. Demonstrating the environmental impact of a VPPA, MilliporeSigma, the U.S. and Canada Life Science business of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany, has matched 100% of its U.S. electricity consumption with renewable energy by participating in one of the largest buyer-organized aggregation deals in the world: a 12-year, off-site, VPPA with Enel Green Power. Included in this aggregation was MilliporeSigma, Uber, Akamai, and Synopsis, which together contracted for 111 MW of the 350 MW project. Virtual Power Purchase Agreement Aligns with the Company’s Sustainability Strategy The Life Science business sector of Merck KGaA, Darmstadt, Germany is a global organization with more than 300,000 high-quality products and 26,000 employees across more than 66 countries. The company understands how important it is to manage its environmental impact, work toward its greenhouse gas reduction targets, and sustain those gains for years to come. One component of our sustainability strategy is to reduce our Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 50% and source 80% of our electricity from renewable options by 2030. Furthermore, we aim to achieve climate neutrality by 2040 across Scope 1, 2 and 3. This VPPA, now operational, directly contributes to the company’s renewable electricity goal. Tackling Global Challenges We are making a concerted effort to bring new renewable energy to the grid with long-term contracts, a key component of our renewable energy strategy. By seeking new projects, MilliporeSigma is playing an active role in increasing the amount of renewable energy on the grid, as opposed to relying solely on pre-constructed assets to supply the company with renewable energy. This enables MilliporeSigma to match the operations of our U.S. manufacturing, distribution, and services sites with renewable electricity—providing customers with greener products and solutions that align with and help advance their own sustainability goals and values. The Future of Virtual Power Purchase Agreements While VPPAs have been around for many years, they have increased in popularity recently as aggregated deals become more widely available. Just a few years ago, VPPAs were only accessible to massive energy consumers. Now, aggregated deals allow companies with small and mid-size electricity loads to engage in a VPPA and unlock new ways to support and advance the renewable energy industry. As companies investigate renewable energy, it is important for each company to determine the best option for their needs as there are several ways to secure renewable energy. An options assessment can include: Determining what kind of renewable energy claims your company wants to make Understanding your energy consumption and its associated emissions by region and location to identify high-priority areas Understanding regulations that exist in your area Determining what local options may be available and comparing those options with a power purchase agreement, VPPA or other agreements Defining your strategy and approach and making sure they align with your business objectives and risk appetite. When done correctly—and following thorough research—companies engaging in a VPPA can look forward to more sustainable operations by reducing their carbon footprint, all while supporting the renewable energy industry for years to come. National Grid's First-of-Its-Kind Renewable Energy RFI Validates a Fossil-Free Energy Strategy for the Northeast

National Grid

WALTHAM, Mass., and BROOKLYN, N.Y., August 16, 2022 /3BL Media/ - National Grid has located robust stocks of renewable natural gas (RNG) and hydrogen potentially available for its customers in Massachusetts and New York through the Company’s first-of-its kind Northeast clean energy request for information (RFI) issued in May. Procurement of RNG and hydrogen are essential to National Grid’s plan to deliver a 100% fossil-free gas network for customers who do not electrify their homes or businesses. Through the RFI responses, the company has determined there will be at least 33 trillion BTUs (TBtus) available in the next three years, more than double the 15 TBtus needed in 2025. National Grid has determined that these fossil-free energy supplies are either immediately available or could be online within two years of contracting the projects, validating the company’s vision for fossil-free heat in the Northeast. “The RFI response alone is nearly double our 2025 need for fossil-free fuel and our analysis indicates that this initial response is not nearly the extent of RNG, hydrogen, and other innovative renewable resources that National Grid can procure,” said James Holodak, Vice President, Energy Procurement, National Grid. “These results are an important proof-point that, with the right policy and regulatory support, within two years of contracting these projects, National Grid would be able to deliver an affordable and reliable clean energy transition for our customers.” National Grid is committed to helping both Massachusetts and New York achieve their climate goals. The Company is working to significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions across the power, transportation, and building heat sectors, the latter being responsible for nearly 40 percent of total emissions in our service territory. Both RNG and hydrogen are key to achieving this net zero energy future. RNG has proven to be a safe and reliable clean energy source that already heats homes and businesses in the United Kingdom. Further, the U.S. Department of Energy allocated hundreds of millions of dollars to develop a scalable hydrogen economy over the next decade. National Grid will deliver these clean energies via a 100 percent fossil-free gas network, coupled with targeted electrification and enhanced energy efficiency, to provide our customers with reliable and affordable clean energy choices that leave no customer or community behind during the clean energy transition. Renewable Natural Gas Renewable natural gas (RNG) is an immediately available resource released into the atmosphere by decomposing materials at farms, landfills, wastewater, and other sources. RNG provides a double benefit as greenhouse gas can be captured before being released and therefore before it impacts our climate. We can then harness and purify it to flow through our existing infrastructure in place of natural gas, which is a fossil-fuel. This fossil-free energy is a double win in our fight against climate change. Nearly twenty states across the country have policies that advance RNG for heating. Green Hydrogen National Grid continues to lead our nation in enabling offshore wind development, and these assets can be used to develop hydrogen through the process of electrolysis. Because the only byproduct of this production process is water vapor, the hydrogen produced is carbon-free. Hydrogen is particularly valuable because it can be stored for future use when conditions are such that our wind or solar assets are not producing high levels of power.
